The Adamawa State High Court has dismissed a suit seeking the deposition of a first-class king, the Kwandi Nunguraya, Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda II.

The Kwandi Nunguraya is the paramount ruler of the Lungunda Kingdom in Adamawa, with traditional headquarters in Guyuk, Guyuk Local Government Area where the King has his palace.

The State High Court on Friday dismissed the suit seeking to set aside the selection of the Kwandi Nunguraya, Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda as the Lunguda King.

In his judgement, Justice Nathan Musa declared that the two plaintiffs’ witnesses who testified in the matter fell short of proving their claim.

Justice Nathan said, “On the whole, therefore, this suit having been unapproved, is accordingly dismissed”.

LEAKBLAST recalls that the current Kwandi Nunguraya was selected and appointed in 2019 after the death of the former Kwandi Nunguraya, Dr. Wilfred Kimde.

Wilfred Kimde died on August 1, 2019, and the current King, Kuruhaye Dishon, after his selection by Lungunda’s kingmakers, was given his Staff of Office on February 22, 2020.

Not satisfied with Kuruhaye Dishon’s selection, however, Baba Gashemuru Amalai and seven others of the Bongkumbebe ruling clan, took Kuruhaye Dishon who is of the Bonsibe ruling clan and six others to court.

The plaintiffs asked the court to outlaw the selection process, claiming that the exercise was faulty because there was no exchange of traditional stones between the two ruling clans before the election and that Wulbina Jackson, the current Commissioner of Education, assisted a blind kingmaker, out of the eight kingmakers, to vote.

They prayed the court to declare that the appointment or approval of the Kwandi Nunguraya by the Adamawa State Government was illegal and prayed the court to set aside the entire process.

They urged the court to retrieve the Staff of Office handed to Kuruhaye Dishon by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
