Anambra 2021, a Look at the Candidates

anambra 2021

Recently, I observed the tension in the political terrain of Anambra state, which is due to the upcoming gubernatorial election on November 6th 2021. Although the date is a bit far, the political scene is so tensed now that you will think November 6th is tomorrow. Anambra as a state has always towered above others in so many areas and this has made the contest of the number one seat of the state very competitive.

I have keenly observed almost all the aspirants across party lines, aspiring to lead our great state after the tenure of the present governor elapses and I have some remarks and opinion to give.

For the discussion today, I will dwell on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because there primaries are a few days from now,  PDP have high chances of winning the election if they put their house in order and avoid  the distractions being orchestrated by enemies of the party through court cases.

I discovered that the party have about Sixteen (16) aspirants whom have officially and formally purchased and submitted the Nomination form and have all been duly screened and cleared to contest the June 26th primaries, which whomever emerges victories at the end of the day, automatically becomes the party’s flag bearer at the November 6th polls. Yes they are sixteen (16) in numbers, but if PDP is going to win the general election come November 6th, they must come out with the best of the candidate.

A fast run down on the aspirants; some of these so called aspirants could have performed better if they support the party with their fan base at their locality to take power from this present government.

Aspirants like Chief Chidi Okwenna, Hon. Tony Nwoye, Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe, Emeka Etiaba SAN, Barr Winston Udeh and Chuma Nzeribe would  do better if they forget about their ambitions and look forward to helping PDP achieve victory in the November 16 elections, my mobilizing their supporters to work and vote for PDP

I will be writing about Five (5) candidates who are contenders in the PDP primaries.

Dr. Obiora Okonkwo “Dikeora”

The Ogidi Born Russian trained Political Scientist Dr. Obiora Okonkwo “Dikeora”, have shown his zeal and readiness to serve Ndi Anambra as their governor, But he has a lot working against him and this is because he is from Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, and it is believed that this is not the time for Anambra Central because Dr Chris Ngige and Peter Obi are from Anambra Central. Anambra State believes in rotational governorship, and it is believed that this is the time for Anambra South and after then comes Anambra Central, the present occupant of the office is from Anambra North. though he is not from Anambra South, he is a strong contender and a candidate to watch out.

Sen. Mrs Iyom Uche Ekwunife

Same factor working against Dr. Obiora Okonkwo is working against her, she is the current Senator representing Anambra Central at the Nigeria Senate and a lot of Anambarians believe she should concentrate on her current position of representing Ndi Anambra at the red chambers.  You can’t be Representing Anambra Central at the Red Chambers and at same time want to Contest for the Governor of Anambra State representing Anambra South.

Dr. Godwin Maduka, Okosisi Orumba, Lion Of Africa

He single handedly reformed a rural community and turned it to a sub-urban city, A Harvard trained Medical Doctor, who hails from Anambra South Senatorial Zone, and its believed that it is the turn of Anambra South to produce the next Governor of the state, he is a grass root politician, a man of the people who have built Schools, Hospitals, Market for his people in Orumba. He is a candidate to watch out in the primaries.

Hon. Chris Azubuogu

He is known as Mr Project, he is currently a member of the Federal House of representative, but the factor working against him is that though he has done wonderfully well as a member of the house of representative, he does not have a grass root reach in other constituencies in the state, we should also remember that Anambra state have eleven (11) federal constituencies, being too popular in one constituency does not make you popular in the other ten (10) constituencies, it is believed that he has a lot more work to do.

Valentine Ozigbo

This is the new Kid on the block, He is a former CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp). A banker. he is also one of the persons to watch out in the coming Primaries, he is from Anambra South. he is very quiet and humble.

If PDP in Anambra wants to come out Victorious in the next gubernatorial elections, they have to come together pick a unifying candidate and support him as a one house and victory will not be far from them.
