APC Chairmanship: Senator Ali Modu National Chairman Opens Up on Meeting With Nigerian Governor

Jigawa – Ex-PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, reacted to news of his meeting with Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa state.

Sheriff, one of the aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairmanship position explained that he met Badaru for over four hours to exchange ideas.

The former Borno state governor speaking to reporters at the end of the meeting said he was in Jigawa state in furtherance of consultations on his ambition to become the next APC national chairman.

The ex-lawmaker went on to note that though the party has not taken a decision on where the leadership of the party will be zoned, he will, however, run if the national chairmanship position is zoned to his location.

He also denied having a conversation with the Jigawa state governor about the party’s upcoming convention.

Sheriff declares interest in APC chairmanship position

The former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier indicated an interest in the position of national chairman to lead the ruling APC.

Sheriff., who indicated interest to contest for the position during the party’s national convention in June, made the announcement on Wednesday, March 31, when he visited the Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Sule.

Former governors eyeing APC chairmanship seat

There are indications that some six former governors have begun intense underground moves and consultations for the national chairmanship seat of the ruling APC.

The tenure of the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, which was inaugurated on June 25, 2020, would lapse in June this year.

Former governors eyeing to become APC national chairman include Senator Al-Makura, Danjuma Goje, George Akume, Abdulaziz Yari, and Sheriff.
