Nigerians have been reacting over unverified reports which claimed that Boko Haram factional leader, Abubakar Shekau, has been killed.

The reports which emanated on Thursday morning, May 20, alleged that a rival terrorist group, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), invaded Shekau’s stronghold in Sambisa Forest and killed him.

Another account claims that after a gun battle, Shekau surrendered to the ISWAP fighters and was asked to pledge allegiance to ISWAP’s authority.

The account stated that while the ISWAP delegation expected Shekau to issue a statement, the factional Boko Haram leader who secretly had a suicide vest on eventually blew himself up alongside everyone present during the negotiations.

While some Nigerians expressed surprise about the reports, others said they would not believe the report until it is verified.

”Omo Be like say shekau Don collect o. But we now have a fierce enemy in Iswap.”

Daddy D said:

”If shekau was truly killed, it is great news but you know what would be more satisfying though, him being captured and dragged through every village, city and town him and his terrorist underlings have destroyed in the course of this insurgency then shot on live TV.”
