Cholera out break in Bauchi : Death toll rises to 37 has recorded seventeen more deaths bringing the number of people who have lost their lives to the recent cholera outbreak to 37.
The disclosure was made by Dr Rilwan Mohammed, the Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, in a recent update made available on Monday saying that the disease had spread to 15 local government areas of the state from the initial nine.
He said that 1,799 cases were recorded from May 25 to the time of compiling the report.
He listed that the affected LGAs as Ganjuwa, Dass, Bauchi, Giade, Jama’are, Darazo, Misau, Ningi and Shira, Warji, Zaki, Alkaleri, Tafawa Balewa, Shira and Kirfi.

According to Mohammed, Bauchi LGA was the worst hit with 1,334 cases and 18 deaths while Toro had 165 cases, Ningi 91 cases and Dass 60 cases with four, three and two deaths respectively.
He assured that the agency has begun the chlorination of wells and the decontamination of affected households and referral of detected cases to the Cholera Treatment Centre.
Recall that the immediate past Commissioner for Health in the State, Dr Aliyu Maigoro, had on 25th May, 2021, announced the outbreak, saying that 20 people had died from the disease
The index case was said to be a 37-year-old housewife who was reported with the disease at the Burra General Hospital on 24th April, 2021.
