The revelation came amid barefaced denials of the state government on coronavirus presence in Kogi

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has raised a fresh alarm over the Covid-19 status of Kogi, with the agency disclosing that only one test was carried out in the northcentral state.

Kogi is the only state yet to officially record any case of coronavirus in the country after Cross Rivers.

Amid growing concern over the state government’s utter denial of the presence of coronavirus, NCDC said Kogi only conducted just one Covid-19 test.

The disease control agency made the shocking disclosure in its situational report for Tuesday, May 18.

Since Nigeria recorded its first case in February, a total of 36,899 samples have been tested with 6,175 positive cases.

1,644 cases have been discharged and 191 fatalities recorded in 35 states, including FCT where the virus has spread to.

Prior to this revelation, recalls that officials of NCDC sent to ascertain the Covid-19 status of Kogi left the state to avoid being sent on isolation and subjected to test.

The officials left the state after Governor Yahaya Bello said the state has resolved to comply with the protocols of the NCDC by putting its officials in quarantine for 14 days and take their samples to ensure they are free of the virus.

“NCDC’s mission in Kogi failed”

Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, said the mission to help discover the presence of Covid-19 in Kogi has failed.

The minister said the NCDC officials sent to ascertain Covid-19 status of the state were not received with open arms

Speaking during the presidential task force briefing on Covid-19 on Friday, May 8, Ehanire, Minister of Health, lamented the hostile reception melted at officials of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) sent to the state.

Four patients died of suspected Covid-19 in Lokoja

 Four patients with suspected Covid-19 symptoms were reported dead at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja.

The patients were said to have died after exhibiting “manifested respiratory issues” with their samples not being taken “dead or alive.”

An investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, had through a series of tweets alleged a cover-up in coronavirus death in Kogi state.

Meanwhile, Kogi government had claimed that the state was under pressure to declare the presence of coronavirus as the pandemic spreads across states of the federation.

This was contained in a statement by Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi state commissioner of information and communication, who gave an update on a female expatriate rumoured to have carried coronavirus pandemic.

“In view of the fact that Kogi state is one of only two states still COVID-19 free in Nigeria and having regard to recent pressures from some interesting quarters for Kogi state to find and declare cases of the disease, we are wary of an unholy conspiracy to declare COVID-19 in all states of the federation,” part of the statement read.
