Court remands 48-year-old for attempted kidnapping


A 48-year-old man, Ifeanyi Clement has been remanded in prison custody by a Chief Magistrates Court in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital for alleged Kidnapping.

Clement and others at large allegedly attempted to kidnap one Comrade Dennis Okeke on gun point.

Okeke and his alleged kidnapping gang were said to be armed with AK 47 riffles and other dangerous weapons, during the incidence at camp road Obeama Oyigbo, Oyigbo local government area of the state, November 30, 2018

He was charged with two-count charge of Kidnapping; he was not represented in the court by any lawyer.

The charge was not read out to him, the court said that he lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.

The Prosecutor, Inspector U. Leticia said his offence is punishable under section 3 (B) (A) of Rivers State Kidnap (prohibition) laws no.5 of 2015 and section 2 of the Rivers State Kidnap (prohibition) laws no. 3 of 2009.

The chief Magistrate Sokari Andrew-Jaja ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison custody while the case file be forewarded to the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

He adjourned the case till February 7, 2019 for report of DPP advice.
