A 300-bed new isolation centre in the Federal Capital Territory is ready for use

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday, May 6 expressed satisfaction over efforts put together by some stakeholders to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Gbajabiamila spoke when he paid an inspection visit to one of the isolation centres in FCT located at the Thisday Dome.

Leakblast.com gathered that the facility was formerly an event centre converted to an over 300-bed isolation centre.

The resources were put together by the combine efforts of a media outfit, oil and gas firm and a construction company.

The Speaker, who was accompanied by some House members, was received at the facility by the minister of state for health, Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora and senior officials of the donor companies.

Speaking during the visit, Gbajabiamila said: “What I’m seeing here today is even beyond my expectation, a comprehensive well-equipped facility, about 300-bed isolation centre.

“The people that put this together thought about everything, there’s an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and the facility is made as comfortable as possible for whoever is coming here, whether as workers or as patients.”

On his part, Senator Mamora said from what was put on ground, the concerns over where to keep infected people after being tested and confirmed have been addressed with the facility.

He said the centre would go a long way in the fight against COVID-19 in the FCT and the country as a whole.
