Enugu women Celebrated International Women’s day 2020 at The Dome Event centre, opposite Nnaji park, New Haven, Enugu.
The chief judge of Enugu state, justice Priscilla Emehelu spoke on the need for Successful implementation of issue of discrimination against women with respect to inheritance. She highlighted that the creation of Enugu state Multi Door Court Houses by Hon Ugwuanyi where domestic violence is settled without regular court is a welcome development.
Women are now members and chairmen of customary courts in Enugu state. Enactment of
the violence Against persons Act,2015 which was domesticated in Enugu state on April 4, 2019 was a welcome development.
This law prevents widows from being subjected to harmful traditional practices.
Hon Princess Peace Nnaji spoke that women have attained more key roles such as Deputy Governor, Chief Judge, Chief Whip,Deputy Leader and Deputy chief Whip, Commissioners, SPAs, Chairpersons of Local Government Areas in Enugu state. Over 3000 rural women were recently empowered through Ugo Touch for life Foundation ( U-TOF) being powered by the wife of the Enugu state Governor, Mrs Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi.
Mrs Cecilia Asogwa, ED/CEO DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION CENTRE also highlited on financial empowerment of women while Princess Akunna Ubosi, wife of the Speaker Enugu House of Assembly, spoke on women coming together to fight a course(unity).
