Europa League: Ten Hag cannot Bench Ronaldo for too long – Omonia coach

Omonia manager, Neil Lennon has sent a clear message to Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag, insisting that he cannot keep Ronaldo out for long on the bench.

Lennon believes Ten Hag and Manchester United will need Ronaldo more as the season progresses.

Ronaldo has started just one Premier League game so far this season.

The 37-year-old has scored just once in eight appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute as Manchester City defeated Man United 6-3 in a Premier League derby last weekend.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Omonia’s Europa League tie with Man United on Thursday night, Lennon believes Ronaldo could have a bumper season once he hits match fitness.

He said (as per The Manchester Evening News): “I understand in the sense why he has not been playing, but you can’t keep him out for long. Over the course of the season, Manchester United will need Cristiano Ronaldo. Once he hits his match fitness, then he could have another bumper season.

“The fact that he is going to be here in this stadium, and I will get to see him again live and close up, is fantastic because he is one of the greatest players of all time. It is very, very special.”
