Nigerians in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Thailand interested in coming home should be ready to pay N297,000 each for evacuation

This is according to a memo by the Nigerian embassies in the three countries

The document stated that those who failed to pay would not be allowed to board the flight back home

Nigerians residing in Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Thailand, who have indicated an interest in returning home, have been asked to pay for flight, accommodation and feeding before they can be evacuated.

According to Sahara Reporters, the Nigerian embassies in the three countries informed intending evacuees that they will pay N297,000 each.

Those who failed to pay were told they would not be allowed to board the flight back home.

A document quoted in the report to the Nigerians stated that: “All evacuees going to Nigeria henceforth are to pay for their quarantine, isolation, accommodation centre or hotels before departure and arrival in Nigeria.

“In this regard, all prospective evacuees are to note the negotiated rate below.

“Accommodation N15,000 x 6 days = N240,000; feeding 3600 x 16 days = N57,600; total 18,600 x 16 days = 297,600.

“Kindly be informed that these rates were negotiated in Nigeria and the embassy has been instructed not to airlift any evacuee who fails to pay the above fee.”

The document was said to have been signed by Nicholas Uhomoibhi, head of chancery, Embassy of Nigeria in Thailand.

The same fee is applicable to those, who registered for evacuation in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of health in Lagos, Akin Abayomi, on Tuesday, May 12, confirmed that a Nigerian returnee from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) is dead.

On his verified Twitter handle Abayomi disclosed that the Nigerian, a male of 32 years old, died of complications from coronavirus.

The Nigerian government recently evacuated some Nigerians in the Arab country back home and they are currently under quarantine.
