Popular nollywood actress, Ini Edo, has refuted reports that her sperm donor is an anonymous person.

Recall that the 39-year-old star had revealed that she had her daughter through surrogacy to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother.

“Yes I do have a daughter and I had her through surrogacy. The eggs are mine and so genetically she’s my blood. I chose this path to fulfill my dream of becoming a mother, l still have a good number of eggs frozen in case I decide to do surrogacy again or carry my baby myself who knows.”

In an exclusive interview with blogger Stella Dimor Korkus, the movie star denied rumours that a married man is her baby’s father. She said that she decided to go the surrogacy route to have her child in order to avoid the drama that usually accompanies single parenthood.

Speaking about the baby’s daddy, the movie star explained she opted for a sperm donor for peace of mind. She added that it was to avoid public controversies over custody of the child.

“I opted for a donor for me and my baby’s peace of mind. Another major reason I opted for a donor is that it scares me so much when I see banter and controversies between a mother and a father over a baby in public forums or when I see the man insisting he wants his child if things don’t work out between both parties,” she said.

The news triggered mixed reactions from social media users as some people congratulated her for being a mother, while others criticized her decision and highlighted the likely implications of it on the child.

Among her critics is Ghanaian writer, Waterz Yidana, who slammed her for having her baby using an anonymous “donor sperm.”

Yidana accused the actress of being selfish and childish in opting for a random “donor sperm” because she claimed she did not want any “baby daddy drama”. According to him, Ini Edo has created a big problem for an innocent child.

He added that her decision can make the child the most miserable person on earth when she comes of age and asks about her father only to be told that she was birthed through surrogacy by a random sperm.

He also noted she may even commit suicide if she is not emotionally strong. The Ghanaian writer argued that every child has the right to have and know their father, adding that it was a great thing to have a father and everyone deserves one.

Yidana said: “But my only problem is that Ini Edo has created a big problem for this innocent baby when she grows up to understand how things work in life…

“Of course, Ini Edo deserves to be happy, but let’s not forget that the innocent child deserves to be happy too, in the future when she grows up to understand what’s happening around her….

“Birthing the baby through surrogacy is not the problem as I keep saying, but her decision of using a random or an anonymous ‘donor sperm’ is my problem with her. Yes, the eggs are hers and so genetically the baby is her blood.

“But who is the baby’s father? Where is he? From which family background? Is he a Ghanaian, Nigerian or a South African? What is his identity?” he stated.

Replying her critics in a now-deleted post, Ini Edo said her daughter’s sperm donor was not random and appealed they be left alone.

“My daughter’s donor isn’t just a random person. Don’t make him any more than a donor. Now y’all can focus on what’s really important in the country and leave us the hell alone,” she wrote.
