Thirty passengers lost their lives while 12 others sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of a fatal accident on Thursday evening on the Kano-Zaria highway.
According to an eyewitness, Malam Garba Idris, the fully loaded 18-seater Hummer bus collided with a Volkswagen saloon in Tashar Musa town in Makarfi LGA of Kaduna State.
The head of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Zaria, Abdurrahman Yakasai, who confirmed the accident, disclosed that their immediate findings suggested that the vehicles were on high speed with each driver trying to overtake another.

He further disclosed to pressmen on Friday, that the vehicles were burnt beyond recognition hence their number plates could not be ascertained.
Yakasai added that the deceased corpses have been deposited at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the wounded travellers are receiving treatment at the same facility.
