Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, is now a professor, courtesy of ST Thomas-A-Becket University, London. However, the reportedly is not an degree-awarding institution.
The governor took to his social media pages to announce the good news. According to Bello, the honourary professorship was given in Humanitarian Services, Human Resources Management and Peace Building.
However, there are indications that the institution does not award degrees.
It was also discovered that the college is located in Esit Eket in Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria,, and is more of an online missionary school
He wrote: “Professor (Honoris Causa) in Humanitarian services, Human Resources Management and Peace Building by the prestigious ST Thomas-A-Becket University, London and fellow of Wesley Synod Canterbury, KENT, United Kingdom.”
Meanwhile, Nigerians have quickly reacted to the development with many people blasting the Kogi governor.
@OpomuleroFAJrote: “Yahaya Bello has no issue with celebrating his conferment of whatever honour by a foreign university. It speaks to not just the quality of the person of Yahaya Bello but also to those who celebrate him.”
@toni1billion also wrote: “Why are u wasting Kogi state resources? Kogi is one of the poorest states in the world, yet you are busy buying Honoris Causa with Kogi money because of your selfish ambition.
On Facebook, Vincent Clarks added: “Research reveals that the acclaimed institution is a non-degree awarding institution and as such, is not authorized to award such esteemed academic Honours. Moreover, the acclaimed courses are not listed on the institution’s website as one of their programmes. Please kindly go for a refund from the black market agent, you were probably defrauded.”
On his part, Musa Suleiman Muhammad added: “Congratulations. Many are with you above those against you, you are indeed a natural treasure. I love you naturally for your doggedness.”
Ama Ndianaeze exclaimed: “Humanitarian wetin? But your humanitarian nonsense no teach you to pay your worker’s salary abi?”
