Man buys N54m Porsche with fake cheque he printed from home

A Florida-based man, Casey William Kelley caught the attention of authorities after he purchased a brand new Porsche with a cheque he printed from a home computer.

After being successful with the car purchase, he then decided to splurge on some watches.

42-year-old Kelley, cashed in the approximately $140,000 (N54m) cheque on Tuesday and was taken into custody one day later when he attempted to buy several Rolex watches at a jeweler in Miramar Beach with more bogus cheques, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Reports say he was subsequently arrested for grand theft of a vehicle and issuance of a false bank note.

The local dealership after selling the car, a Porsche 911 Turbo, unsuccessfully tried to cash Kelley’s cheque and then reported the vehicle as stolen.

The jeweler, however, opted to keep the cheque and watches until the money cleared. When the cheque came back as false, the cashier reported the crime to police, although Kelley was already in custody.

Police said Kelley later confessed that he had printed the cheques from a computer at home.
