Some 65 more sanctions have been announced by the UK this morning, including on the Wagner Group, which was reportedly hired to assassinate President Zelenskyy, and Russian Railways.
It means that more than 1,000 Russians and individuals have now been sanctioned by the UK.
Alfa Bank and Gazprombank are among the new businesses sanctioned, as well as the CEO of Sberbank, and the stepdaughter of Sergei Lavrov.
Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said: “These oligarchs, businesses and hired thugs are complicit in the murder of innocent civilians and it is right that they pay the price.
“Putin should be under no illusions – we are united with our allies and will keep tightening the screw on the Russian economy to help ensure he fails in Ukraine.
“There will be no let-up”.
The UK has previously sanctioned Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, put a stop to Russian airlines and planes flying over or into the UK and has slapped restrictions on most people involved in the Russian Kremlin and Duma.
