Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding schools in Rafi, Mariga, Munya, and Shiroro local government areas of the state.
The governor gave the order following the abduction of some student from the Government Science College Kagara.
According to reports, Bello told journalists on Wednesday, February 17, that order was a security measure to save the life of the students.
He said the recent bandit attacks in the state which have now become more brazen and daring is troubling.
Leakblast reported that the governor asked President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy all necessary mechanisms to help in containing the situation as it is now out of hand.
Meanwhile, the president has condemned the abduction of some students from the Government Science College, Kagara, in the Rafi local government area of Niger state.
The president in a statement through a presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, disclosed that he has directed the armed forces and police to ensure the immediate and safe return of all the captives.
He urged members of the armed forces to do everything necessary to secure the release of the students and prevent a repeat of the attacks on schools in the future.
In another report, the Nigerian Senate has asked President Buhari to declare a state of emergency across the country with immediate effect.
The demand was part of the Senate’s resolution on Wednesday, February 17 as a holistic response to the mounting security challenges across the country.
The resolution was made moments after Senator Sani Musa cited Order 42 and 52 to seek the leave of the Senate to present a motion on the abduction of students and teachers of Government Science School, Kagara, Niger state.
