Rotimi Akeredolu the Governor of Ondo State has said that Nigerians would soon start to arm themselves in self-defence if the killing of innocent citizens continues unchecked.
Akeredolu stated that the Federal Government has failed to protect the life and property of Nigerians following the attack and killing of over 40 worshippers of St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.
The Ondo governor made this known while delivering the keynote address at the meeting of the Attorney-Generals of the 36 States of Nigeria held in Lagos on Thursday.
Akeredolu stated that the Nigeria Police are over stretched beyond the limit and have failed in their constitutional role of protecting Nigerians.
“We will carry arms very soon, Oga AGF Malami, there is no other way, the police have failed,” Akeredolu stated.
Governor Akeredolu, however, asked the police to stop working if the Federal Government could not meet their equipment needs.
In his remark, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), slammed state governors who have been calling for restructuring and state police.
He asserted that state governors who have taken over the allocations of local governments in their states have no moral right to ask for restructuring and state police.
Malami claimed that the state governors are responsible for the compromise and mismanagement of the current system which has led to insecurity in the country.
Meanwhile, a former minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, has called on politicians in the South-East to align with another region in the next four to eight years to produce the next president of Nigeria.
The chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday noted that the votes of people from the South-East alone can not produce a president without support from another region.
Chidoka stated this during an interview on Channels TV on Thursday.
He further stated that the South-East would continue to recalibrate its presence and continue to push for the presidency in PDP.
