Scientists studied adult African penguins – a species native to the coastal waters of of Namibia and South Africa. They recorded 28 of the creatures being held in Italian zoos, analyzing what are termed the “ecstatic display songs”.
As in human language, the words used most often by the penguins were the shortest. The longest words were composed of additional but briefer syllables.
