FCT, Police Command on Thursday arraigned Donatus Iheme, 46, Amadi Ikechukwu, 49, Sunday Markus 42, and Ibrahim Yakubu, 40, in a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates’ Court, Abuja for alleged conspiracy and inciting public disturbance.
The four businessmen were charged with with three counts of joint act, mischief and inciting public disturbance.
The Prosecuting counsel, Ms. Charity Okoro, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on July, 2 2021.
Okoro said all the Abuja businessmen criminally conspired and mischievously broke the Dutse Alhaji Market fence that was built by the FCT Administration.
She said, “The defendant’s action ruined the original plan of the market design which was capable of provoking public disturbance to traders and members of public.
“During police investigation all four defendants admitted to the crime and stated that their intention was to create additional entrance gate into the market.”
Okoro said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97, 327 and 114 of the Penal Code Law.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Magistrate Aminu Eri granted bail to all the accused persons in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties for the businessmen must reside within the court’s jurisdiction in Abuja, with a means of livelihood and must present an identity card which must be verified by the court registrar.
The case was adjourned until September 2, 2021 for hearing.
