Samuel Chukwueze was among the scorers when his side recorded their fourth win of the season following Villarreal’s 2-0 win over Real Valladolid.
The Nigerian international last scored for the Yellow Submarines in their 3-1 win over Celta Vigo in November 2019.
But the 21-year-old was on hand to side-foot home Villarreal’s first in the 21st minute from an Alfonso Pedraza’s low cross.
Spain international Pau Torres added the second in the 37th minute as the Yellow Submarines doubled the advantage to make it 2-0.
Valladolid fought back in the second half as Shon Weissman’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Asenjo.
Gerrard Moreno should have made it 3-0 but the Spanish striker could not finish from his brilliant turn as the ball hit the side-netting.
Chukwueze was then substituted in the 64th minute Takefusa Kubo as the Nigerian ended his goal drought for the club.
