Hollywood will, in November 2021, honour Uzodinma Okpechi for excellence in cinematic direction, after over two decades in the world of filmmaking.
Okpechi’s journey into the world of filmmaking has seen him making over 30 brilliant films and several music videos that have stood him out from his peers.
From his first effort with ‘Above Death’ in 1998 to ‘More Money,’ ‘Brave Men,’ ‘Rebels,’ ‘Eyes In The House,’ ‘Turntables’ and ‘Kamsi, Okpechi have continued to distinguish himself having risen through the ranks from computer graphics to editing, producing and eventually directing.
Little wonder British/Nigerian multiple-award-winning Hollywood filmmaker, writer and renowned researcher on African Affairs, Egor Efiok, and her team of researchers, decided to nominate Okpechi for the award.
The honour, which is coming from the Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival, is coming on the grounds that Okpechi’s palpable contributions to the entertainment and creative industry as a film director spanning over two decades, will undoubtedly inspire a creative generation.
The organisers of the film festival say Okpechi’s contributions are both a legacy of hope for the movie industry in Nigeria and indeed, Africa.
To this end, Okpechi has been nominated to receive the prestigious Hollywood “Excellence In Cinematic Direction” Award at the 2021 HWMFF grand event on Saturday, November 6, 2021 in recognition of his psychological thriller, ‘The Mystic River.’
Honoured with the nomination, Okpechi says it’s a good feeling to be nominated by someone who he hasn’t met before nor lobbied to get the honour, “I thank Egor Effiok and her team; I have never met Egor in person. She saw The Mystic River and did her thing. It’s a good feeling knowing such people still exist. The kind you don’t need to lobby or know before they follow their convictions. Super glad. Of course, I can never stop believing.”
Okpechi will join a list of many distinguished African filmmakers and government officials who have been recipients of HWMFF awards in various categories and will be presented with the award inside the Warner Bros. Studio.
In a letter signed by the publisher of Hollywood Weekly, Prater Jackson, the Hollywood Weekly Magazine will feature everything in the December 2021/January 2022 Special Film Festival Magazine Edition, which would include photos of Okpechi and other award recipients receiving their Hollywood awards. This Special Film Festival Magazine Edition will also be distributed to Executives of Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, Netflix, Universal Studios, CBS Television City and Fox Studios.
