Poland is applying double standards in the way it treats migrants, the United Nations says.
Felipe Gonzalez Morales praises Poland and its citizens’ efforts to welcome and put up in their own homes those fleeing fighting in Ukraine.
But he says the Polish authorities have adopted a different approach to mostly Middle Eastern and African migrants and asylum seekers entering the country illegally from Belarus, often locking them inside “foreigner centres” across the country without the right to leave whilst their asylum application is processed.

“This double standard approach had led to feelings of being discriminated among third country nationals,” Gonzalez Morales says in a statement.
Some 1.25 million Ukrainian refugees have registered for temporary protection in Poland, according to the UN.
Many are being housed in private homes.
